The Management Team is responsible for assuring efficient planning, control and organization of all scientific, educational and financial structures and meetings, as well as for organizing all dissemination and PR activities.
It consists of the following members:
Prof. dr. Peter Hagoort
Programme director
Peter Hagoort is director of the Language in Interaction consortium and coordinator of Big Question 2.
He is a professor of Cognitive Neuroscience at Radboud University Nijmegen, director of the Max Planck Institute for Psycholinguistics and director of the Centre for Cognitive Neuroimaging of the Donders Institute.
His research focuses on the neurobiological foundations of the human language faculty. He investigates how the brain regulates language production and language comprehension. As one of the first Hagoort combined psychological theory with neuroscientific models. He also pioneered research on the interaction between speech and gestures and the role of attention in information structure aspects of language. His ideas have influenced the field substantially.
Peter Hagoort places much emphasis on the communication of research to a wider audience, He is involved in the public debate on the functioning of the brain and has set up several websites on the topic of language. As an example, please visit www.hettaligebrein.nl.
Carmen Marseille
Programme manager
Carmen Marseille is the Programme Manager of the Language in Interaction Consortium.
She has a background in descriptive linguistics and international studies, and has previously developed a Portuguese language curriculum, worked at an embassy and did linguistic research in Myanmar.
Carmen joined the consortium in June 2022, to assist in the expansion of knowledge utilization and societal impact projects, and later took on the programme management.
Manon Schmitz
Project controller
Manon Schmitz is the project controller for the Language in Interaction consortium since September 2021, after her predecessor Kwan Lee.
After working as a project controller at the Behavioural Science Institute of the Faculty of Social Science at the Radboud University, Manon took on the challenge of bringing the large Language in Interaction project to a successful conclusion.
Manon is responsible for Planning & Control within the consortium and advises – as part of the management team – the Scientific Board, the Finance & Control departments of the partner institutes, NWO and other parties involved.
Julia Verhoef
Management assistant
Julia Verhoef is the Management Assistant for the Language in Interaction consortium since 2016.
She was born and raised in Russia. There she graduated from the Kuban State University, department of Modern Greek and English languages. In December of 2001, she moved to the Netherlands because of her Dutch husband.
Prior to this position, she has mostly worked in business community and that is why she is very excited to work in a completely different environment and to be a part of such a unique project.
Dr. Esther Steenbeek
Coordinator Societal Impact
Esther Steenbeek is the Societal Impact Coordinator for the Language in Interaction consortium. She is responsible for disseminating research output from the Language in Interaction projects through social relevant applications for health, education and new media.
Based on her PhD research, Esther coordinated the development of the reading game Letterprins as its intellectual inventor. Letterprins 2.0 was launched in 2022 can be played on www.letterprins.nl.
Given her broad background in psycholinguistics, cognitive neuroscience and applied science of special education, she is enthusiastic about translating language research into practice, and thereafter implementing it in educational and healthcare settings.
